One critical skill that every home party consultant should have in her arsenal is the ability to make the party guests feel comfortable. Although it is likely that everyone knows the hostess, it is possible that not everyone that was invited knows each other.
Unless you are a natural social butterfly, you can probably relate to how awkward that can feel.
One great way to put everyone at ease and lighten the mood is to get everyone involved in a group icebreaker game. Icebreakers are great because they get everyone talking and sharing and takes off all the pressure.
Plus, if you can find some funny party games, everyone will be too busy laughing to worry about feeling uncomfortable. So, sit back, relax, and check out the list below to find your perfect icebreaker.
Group Icebreaker Game #1:
People Scavenger Hunt
If your goal is to get everyone up, moving about, and chatting with each other, this is the way to go. Before your party, print out several copies of a list containing about 20 questions. These questions can be totally random but should be related to people. Some examples are:
1. Who has a pet snake or lizard?
2. Who still watches cartoons?
3. Who has a set of twins in their family?
4. Who has ever been out of the country?
5. Who speaks a second language?
6. Who played a musical instrument in high school?
7. Who played a sport in college?
8. Who hates chocolate?
9. Who was born in September?
10. Who is the oldest child?
11. Who pays their bills before they are due?
12. Who waits until their bills are due before they pay them?
13. Who enjoys exercising?
14. Who thinks that exercising is a form of torture?
15. Who wears a size 9 shoe?
16. Who was born in the 80’s?
17. Who has at least 2 children?
18. Who loves to dance?
19. Who is still trying to figure out what really happened at the end of Inception?
20. Who has ever gone bungee jumping?
Give everyone a sheet of paper and have them go around the room trying to find at least one person who fits each question. This will encourage your guests to mingle for a bit.
Group Icebreaker Game #2:
The Singing Circle Game
This is a great game that I used to play with my friends and is a cool icebreaker that will likely have everyone laughing. Have everyone at the party get into a circle. Pick a song that everyone knows. One popular example is the theme song to The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, but it can be anything that is well-known.
The goal is to sing the song from beginning to end. The catch, you have to go around the circle and everyone can only sing one word at a time. There are two variations to the game. You can either play it so that anyone who messes up is kicked out of the game or you can play so that if anyone messes up, you have to immediately start over again with the next person until you make it through the entire song.
Group Icebreaker Game #3: Two Truths and a Lie
For this game, you will have everyone write on a sheet of paper two things about themselves. Two things will be facts. One thing will be a lie. Everyone will take turns telling their three things and the other players have to figure out which one is the lie.
